Message from the CED
A message of hope, education and opportunity from the leadership of Mapex Training Institute.
Dear fellow Papua New Guineans, students, parents, partners and visitors, welcome to the Mapex Training Institute website.
I take this special opportunity, as the Managing Director of Mapex Training Institute (MTI), to sincerely thank you for taking the time to visit our website and learn more about our institution.
My fellow Papua New Guineans, Mapex Training Institute exists to provide alternative education and skills-training opportunities for our young people and others who have been unable to continue through the formal public education system. For many years, I have reflected on some important questions:
- Why are so many of our sons and daughters unable to continue their education after completing Grades 8, 10 and 12?
- Where can they access tertiary education or practical skills training that will help them find employment and build better lives?
- If they cannot continue their education, what opportunities will be available to them?
- How can we help prevent young people from being left without direction, support or a positive pathway towards their future?
- If our education system cannot meet every learner’s needs, who else will step forward to help address the gap?
These are questions that we, as a nation, must seriously consider. We must work together to find practical solutions that give our people hope, purpose and a genuine opportunity to succeed. I firmly believe that Papua New Guinea cannot reach its full potential without an educated, skilled and empowered population.
“If our government cannot do it all, we must do our part. We must be proactive, focus on solutions and create opportunities for our people rather than simply complain about the challenges we face.”
Every challenge requires us to think creatively, act responsibly and look at problems from different perspectives. There is often a way forward when people are willing to take initiative and work together towards a common goal.
For these reasons, I decided to undertake meaningful work that could benefit myself, my family and my country. In 2004, I registered a community-based consultancy company and began providing training in Project Proposal Writing, Business Writing and Report Writing Skills.
I travelled to centres throughout Papua New Guinea and visited rural communities to deliver these training programs. My aim was to help people develop the skills to prepare proposals, access development funding and contribute to the growth of their own communities.
Over time, these humble efforts began to bear fruit. Demand for training in different areas continued to grow, strengthening my determination to bring learning opportunities closer to the people. We wanted to make quality training more accessible, practical and affordable, including for those living far from major centres.
Our Journey: From Community Training to MTI
Began delivering community-focused training in project proposal writing, business writing and report writing skills.
Mapex Training Institute was established to expand access to education and training opportunities for Papua New Guineans.
MTI reached an important institutional milestone, with recognition and accreditation through DHERST following the NHETB decision approved on 29 November 2024.
Ladies and gentlemen, that is how Mapex Training Institute came into existence in 2015. Today, I am privileged to lead this institution and contribute to its continuing development. I have dedicated my career to MTI because I believe deeply in the potential of our students, our staff and the communities we serve.
Our responsibility is not simply to provide courses. It is to help learners develop knowledge, practical skills, confidence and a stronger sense of purpose. We want our graduates to be better prepared to pursue employment, establish businesses, support their families and contribute positively to our nation’s development.
As we move forward, I remain committed to strengthening the quality of our training, improving the learning experience and building an educational culture that supports our students and communities. We will continue working towards making relevant education and skills training accessible to more people across Papua New Guinea.
To our students, I encourage you to remain focused, disciplined and determined. To parents and guardians, thank you for the trust you place in us. To our staff, partners and supporters, your commitment helps us continue this important work.
Together, we can create opportunities, strengthen communities and help build a brighter future for Papua New Guinea.
I wish you every success in your future endeavours. May the Good Lord bless you all.
Thank you.
